The City of South Pasadena has announced the completion of two new pocket parks, a milestone made possible through significant grant funding aimed at expanding local green space and recreational opportunities.

The City secured $550,000 in Measure A funds from the Los Angeles County Regional Park and Open Space District (RPOSD), along with an additional $193,992 from the State of California’s Proposition 68 Parks and Water Bond of 2018. RPOSD, a special district that allocates property tax revenue to support parks and open space projects, and Proposition 68, a statewide bond approved by voters to fund parks and environmental initiatives, both played key roles in bringing the new parks to fruition.
The combined grants supported construction of Grevelia Pocket Park and the Dr. Beatriz Solis Memorial Park at Berkshire Pocket Park. City officials say the investment reflects South Pasadena’s ongoing commitment to expanding public open space, improving recreational amenities, and enhancing residents’ quality of life. The new parks provide accessible, environmentally sustainable green areas designed to serve the community for years to come.
To celebrate the completion of the project, the City will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at 10:00 am at the Dr. Beatriz Solis Memorial Park, located at 2006 Berkshire Avenue. A photo opportunity at Grevelia Pocket Park, 1107 Grevelia Street, will follow at 11:15 am.
