The City of South Pasadena invites residents and organizations to participate in the beloved Festival of Balloons 4th of July Parade, a cherished tradition that has brought the community together since 1982.

      By News Desk

This year’s parade will take place on Saturday, July 4, 2025, starting at 11:00 am from Diamond Avenue near the Library Community Room and concluding at Garfield Park.

Known for its vibrant and inclusive atmosphere, the parade showcases a diverse lineup of local groups, including Scouts, elected officials, Little League and AYSO teams, service clubs, and volunteers from the South Pasadena Tournament of Roses Committee, who will ride atop the city’s Rose Parade float. A highlight of the parade is always the participation of children from the South Pasadena Library’s Summer Reading Program, marching alongside library staff in a festive display.

As many locals often say, “Half the town is in the parade, and the other half is watching it!” This hometown celebration, which was founded by civic leaders Ted and Joan Shaw and David Margrave, has become a key fixture of the Independence Day holiday, bringing neighbors together to honor the spirit of community and patriotism.

The theme for this year’s parade is Unity in Community: One Nation, One Neighborhood, which encourages participants to showcase creativity and togetherness through decorations and music. Parade participants may either walk or ride in a decorated vehicle along the 0.6-mile route.

Those interested in participating must complete a one-page registration form and agree to the parade guidelines by Thursday, May 29, 2025. Forms can be submitted by email (preferred) to specialevents@southpasadenaca.gov, or by mail to:

      South Pasadena Recreation Division
      815 Mission Street
      South Pasadena, CA 91030
      Attn: Festival of Balloons Parade

For more details, registration forms, and parade guidelines, visit southpasadenaca.gov/events.

After the parade, the festivities continue with the Party in the Park at Garfield Park, followed by the spectacular Fireworks Display at South Pasadena High School beginning at 9:00 pm. The evening will also feature a pre-show concert from 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm for attendees to enjoy before the fireworks display lights up the sky.

For more information, contact Community Services Supervisor Nathalie Wilcox at (626) 403-7380 or via email at specialevents@southpasadenaca.gov.
