Lucia Aguilar Cole, 26, currently serving as Deputy for Community Growth and Economic Innovation for the Los Angeles City Council, and her twin sister, Antonia Aguilar Cole, were taken into custody around 7:00 pm Sunday, according to records from the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department
Authorities allege that the sisters were involved in an incident during the protest in which a police officer was assaulted with a deadly weapon. The demonstration, held in response to recent immigration enforcement actions, escalated near a bridge over the 101 Freeway.
The Cole sisters are the daughters of Rick Cole, Chief Deputy Controller for the City of Los Angeles and a sitting councilmember representing Pasadena’s District 2.
Officials have not released further details regarding the alleged assault or the specific charges the sisters may face. No officer injuries have been confirmed. Both sisters were released from custody on Monday shortly after 1:00 pm on $50,000 bail each, with a court appearance scheduled for June 30.
Sunday’s protest was one of several held across the city amid mounting tensions over federal immigration policy. While law enforcement reported multiple arrests, authorities emphasized that the majority of demonstrators remained peaceful.
