Mayor Pro Tem Kristine Lowe presented the new L.A. County initiative, called LA County Forward, which aims to rebuild and provide financial support across the region.
“It’s a blueprint for rebuilding, and there are basically six pillars that will be happening here in our county,” Lowe said. “One is supporting a financial path to return—creating the ability for people to lower costs. Additionally, we are considering our workforce and what we will need in the next five years as we rebuild.”
Lowe shared more detailed plans for navigating the LA County Forward initiative, which is designed to help the region recover and prepare for future natural disasters.
“There has been legislation and funding to support this effort, and now it’s up to us to reach out for those grants and find support in our state to increase our water wells and infrastructure, not just for fires, but also earthquakes,” Lowe said. “The most essential part is, how can we revive the community and restore what we lost in Altadena and Pasadena?”
Mayor Robert Parkhurst announced the proclamation of July as Parks and Recreation Month.
“Parks and Recreation are an integral part of communities throughout this county, including the city of Sierra Madre,” Parkhurst said. “It supports health and wellness, enhancing the physical and mental well-being of individuals who live near parks, and acknowledges the benefits derived from these resources. Therefore, it is proclaimed that the City of Sierra Madre does hereby proclaim July as Parks and Recreation Month.”
Parkhurst also announced an upcoming concert series and a current job vacancy.
The concert series will feature a classic ’70s rock and roll band on July 20, followed by The Skinny Ties, an ’80s rock group, on July 27 in Memorial Park. The senior commission vacancy remains open, and members encourage community members to apply.
The next Sierra Madre Council meeting will be on Tuesday, July 15.
