L.A. County Supervisor Kathryn Barger honored four deputies from the Crescenta Valley Los Angeles County Sheriff’s (LASD) Station and four firefighters from Los Angeles County Fire Stations 19 and 63 who responded to a serious house fire in La Cañada Flintridge last month and saved lives while facing extremely dangerous conditions.

The eight first responders responded to a dangerous residential fire that was in progress on Rancho Cañada Road in La Cañada Flintridge on January 30, 2024.
Within just two minutes of receiving the call, at nearly 4:00 am, the LASD Crescenta Valley deputies were first on the scene, rescuing a young man and a woman. They worked in lock step with County firefighters who arrived moments later, facing heavy smoke and a massive house fire in progress.
Leaders from both Los Angeles County’s Fire and Sheriffs’ Departments have lauded the rescue as a prime example of how first responders should collaborate and respond to a life-threatening emergency.
The body cam video (see video below) from the responding deputies shows the perilous conditions and rescue that took place.
“The Los Angeles County deputies and firefighters who responded that night all put their lives on the line as countless others do, every day,” said Supervisor Kathryn Barger. “It will be a special privilege to honor their bravery and thank them for their work in the Fifth District communities I represent.”

Thanks to these LA County Sheriffs!!! It was a tragic fire that claimed the life of a 64-year-old Korean American man, but his wife and nephew survived. Thanks also to a Korean American neighbor who is also an LA County Sheriff who called 911 when she first saw the fire when she was going to work at LA County jail facility that early morning. They are all heroes!!
