Senator Sasha Renée Pérez (D-Pasadena) called for the immediate release of Service Employees International Union (SEIU) President David Huerta following his arrest during an immigration protest in Los Angeles County.

Senator Pérez denounced the actions by federal authorities, describing the raids as part of a broader pattern of “reign of terror and merciless attacks” on immigrant communities by the T. Administration. She accused federal officials of using “brute force” against protesters and warned that such behavior exemplifies the administration’s disregard for human rights and civil liberties.
“David is a respected leader in California’s powerful and united labor movement,” Pérez stated, adding that Huerta was harmed and taken into custody while protesting immigration raids taking place across the region.
Highlighting recent media reports, Pérez pointed to the case of a Los Angeles County fourth grader allegedly taken from school by immigration authorities earlier this week and now facing deportation. “Tearing families apart… only proves that this administration has no boundaries it won’t cross,” she said.
The senator vowed continued resistance, declaring, “We will not stand by and let this destruction of American values happen. We will fight back.”
Pérez also urged the federal government to pivot toward comprehensive immigration reform that prioritizes inclusion and economic contribution over enforcement. She reaffirmed her office’s commitment to immigrant communities, promoting “Know Your Rights” resources and supporting legislation like SB 98, the SAFE Act, aimed at safeguarding immigrant protections in California.
The arrest of Huerta has sparked outcry among labor and immigrant rights organizations, as tensions escalate over federal immigration enforcement in the state.
