      Celebrate earth through art, music, puppetry, poetry, climate talks and more!

      The eARTh Festival (a play on the words art and earth) promises to be a family-friendly indoor/outdoor event at Throop Theater, spanning through the Learning Garden, and on the gracious Throop patio.

      Picking up where the city of Pasadena left off, this free mini-festival will offer the following (as of publication time):

      Rick Wilson and Jean Sudbury

      – Music of the Spheres

      A musical duo consisting of Rick Wilson, expert flutist and Professor of Mathematics, Emeritus at Caltech, and Musician and poet Jean Sudbury on the violin.

      – Guardians of the Earth

      An interaction puppetry for all ages, presented by Penelope Torribio, eco-artist and entertainer, and receiver of Women in Theater Award for community work.

      – Poets on Site

      Poets on Site is a multi-media performance poetry group created by Kathabela Wilson. The group goes to a location (usually a gallery, museum, garden, etc.) and writes then returns to perform on the site of their inspiration incorporating dance music poetry science art and songs. They’ve done over 50 performances and 35 books. The group won a Muse award from the American Association of Museums for Pacific Asia Museum for a poetry audio tour on their collection.

      An old tradition in many parts of the world is revived where people dress up themselves with natural Henna tattoos. What better way than Earth Day to celebrate mother earth with a natural temporary tattoo!

      – Drumming in the Garden

      Enjoy a drumming jam with master drummer Chris Moore at the circle of love right in the middle of Throop Garden.

      –  Art Gallery

      An Art Opening Gallery with beautiful work from four local artists:

      • Minh Thai, Sonny Premo, Amy Devorkin, and works from the late Walt Girdner.

      –  Hope for Earth Tree

      Write a wish as a symbol of hope for Pasadena and the earth. Hang your hope for bringing peace and healing on the Olive Tree.

      Many Vendors and organizations will offer hand crafted goods, fair trade tea and coffee, plus information about how participants can express their appreciation for our little blue world.
