– Labor icon Dolores Huerta, co-founder of the United Farm Workers union alongside Cesar Chavez, is supporting California’s Proposition 33, the statewide ballot measure for rent control. Proposition 33 is just 23 words: “The state may not limit the right of any city, county, or city and county to maintain, enact or expand residential rent control.”
– The South Pasadena City Council has placed the South Pasadena Neighborhood Preservation, Local Control measure on the November 2024 general election ballot, as part of the implementation of their Housing Element.
– Join Saturn Park Advisory Review Committee (SPARC) members, local stakeholders, and community members in a series of engaging workshops aimed at shaping the future of Monterey Park. Workshop Dates: Monday, August 19 – 6:30 – 8:00 pm & Thursday, August 29 – 6:00 – 7:30 pm. All workshops will be held at the Service Club House, 440 S McPherrin Ave.
– Director of the Altadena Library District Nikki Winslow spoke at the last Altadena Town Council meeting on a growing need for volunteers, as well as recruitment for the Youth and Family Services Department.
– Along with the development of Charles White Park, there is an exhibition of the legacy of Charles White and his art in the community room of the Main Altadena Library. Winslow also expressed immense gratitude to the Altadena Historical Society and their efforts to create a community-driven art piece in the form of a quilt.
– Kenia Estrella reported that the Eaton Canyon’s Nature Center has had wildly successful events in the past few weeks, with around 700 people participating in the Bark Rangers event, as well as A Day in Nature, and their first Pride Outside event, which featured plant walks and nature journaling.

– On Monday, August 12, 2024, South Pasadena Unified welcomed 13 new certificated staff members during a New Teacher Orientation held at the District Office boardroom. SPUSD Board President Karissa Adams, along with Superintendent Geoff Yantz and the District leadership team, extended a warm welcome to the new educators.
