San Gabriel City Hall, Medical Center, Police Department, and Fire Department were recently the recipients of surgical face masks and hand sanitizer donated by the “Angel-We Care” charity donation campaign, sponsored by the Chinese University Alumni Association Alliance of Southern California (CUAAASC).

With the help of newly installed City Councilmember Tony Ding, who is also an alum of CUAAASC, the Alliance was able to coordinate distribution badly needed equipment to the City. On Friday, April 10, the Alliance donated 10,000 pieces of FDA approved surgical face masks and 60 bottles of alcohol-based hand sanitizer to San Gabriel Valley Medical Center, San Gabriel Police Station and City Hall to fight COVID-19.

Donations for the “Angel-We Care” campaign have been coming in from not only alumni from each member association of CUAAASC, but also from other social sectors like non-profit foundations and private funds. As of early April, about $210,000 worth of equipment has been donated to about 70 hospitals, clinics, other medical facilities and professional organizations fighting the Covid-10 pandemic in the front line. Some of the donations were given to hospitals in New York. This gives the Alliance a chance to thank those professionals serving our community.

In addition to the city donations, US Zhejiang General Chamber of Commerce and the General Manager of Good Fortune Markets donated 3,000 disposable, protective face masks (non-medical) to the community. The free masks were given out Saturday, April 11, to the general public at the entrance of Good Fortune Market in San Gabriel. There were five (5) masks in each sealed package, one package per person.

As a member of the US Zhejiang Chamber, Councilmember Ding also helped to coordinate the public mask give-away at Good Fortune Market. Zhejiang, China, is Councilmember Ding’s hometown. A long-time U.S. resident, he has a successful finance and insurance business in San Gabriel.

“The mask donations are very timely as face coverings are now required for anyone doing essential activities,” said San Gabriel Mayor Denise Menchaca, “The City’s first responders and staff as well as residents and businesses greatly benefit from this act of kindness and generosity in helping slow the spread of COVID-19. We especially thank Councilmember Tony Ding for leading the efforts to secure such a large quantity of masks.”
