Due to the devastating impact of the recent wildfires, both federal and state authorities have extended tax filing deadlines for individuals and businesses in Los Angeles County.
By News Desk
Income tax returns for Los Angeles County residents and businesses, normally due by April 15, 2025, will now be due on October 15, 2025, as announced by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the Governor’s Office of California in early January.
This extension is designed to provide additional time for residents and businesses to meet their tax obligations while recovering from the disaster.
Federal Extensions
The IRS has clarified that the October 15 deadline applies to individual income tax returns and payments that would typically be due on April 15, 2025. Additionally, 2024 estimated tax payments—which are usually due on January 15, April 15, June 16, and September 15, 2025—will also be extended.
State Extensions
The California Franchise Tax Board (FTB) has aligned with the IRS, granting Los Angeles County residents and businesses the same extended deadline of October 15, 2025.
These extensions provide critical financial breathing room for those continuing to recover from the fires’ impact. Both state and federal agencies encourage individuals and businesses to stay in close communication with tax authorities to ensure they meet the new deadlines without unnecessary stress.
