UPDATE 2- Even-though tickets may be sold out, if you’re on the waiting list, make sure you check your email on the morning of the event, or the night before, for any last-minute cancellations.
UPDATE 1- Tickets were sold within 20 mins . Pasadena Complete Streets Coalition posted the following message on our Facebook post:
We’re thrilled that the Walktober tours of Glenarm are so popular! Last year, each tour date was full within 5 minutes of our releasing tickets. This year, tickets for all 3 dates were gone and the waitlist for 2 dates full within 20 minutes. We’re asking Pasadena Water & Power if they can add any dates. Fingers crossed!
The Glenarm Power Plant has been keeping the lights on in Pasadena since 1907.

A major re-powering in 2016 helped reduce the city’s fuel consumption and emissions and lowered its carbon footprint. This increased efficiency, and helped better integrate renewable energy into its grid by backstopping it with a reliable alternative when needed. The facility is an essential component of the City’s reliable supply of electricity while serving as a step toward meeting its sustainability goals.
What to expect
On this tour, you have a rare opportunity to explore the new state-of-the-art power plant and get a glimpse into the history of the City’s power generation.
Since the plant is an industrial facility (industrial hazards do exist at the plant), participants should observe the following:
- No open-toed or high-heeled shoes.
- Long pants are recommended; skirts are not (for the sake of modesty).
Tickets
Tickets are free and will be released online on September 28 at 7:00 a.m. Once tickets are released, you need to print your ticket and bring a copy with you on the day of the event. (Limited quantity. First come, first served). The event will take place on Saturday, October 5, 2019 from 9:00 – 11:00 am (three different tours).
Parking and transportation
Your parking and transportation options/information are as follows:
- Gold Line Fillmore Station.
- Bicycles – The facility does not have bike racks. (Hopefully the situation will change in the coming years).
- Cars – Street parking is available on Raymond Ave and at the Fillmore Station garage.
Be mindful
The organizers are anticipating this tour to be a popular event; therefore, you are urged to transfer your ticket to someone else if you are unable to make it.
This tour is hosted by Pasadena Complete Streets Coalition, and is being offered as part of the Walktober 2019 event, an annual national event to get people walking in their communities.

I worked at the glenarm plant for 5 years. I would like to be notified when the next tour is being planned.
Very interesting history; Not sure if now, but once was the most efficient steam plant anywhere.
Sold out already? Bummer!
Sold out already, darn it. Looks so interesting.
Maybe next year.
