The protest, scheduled from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm in front of the Tesla store at 117 W Colorado Blvd, Old Pasadena, is aimed at bringing attention to a range of political and social issues tied to Elon Musk, DOGE, and the current administration.
The rally is set to feature Congresswoman Judy Chu, who has announced her support and will join the event to express her concerns about the current political landscape. Organizers encourage participants to attend when they can and to stay for as long as they wish. The protest is open to all, and attendees are urged to share the event with friends, colleagues, and family.
“We’re standing up for our democracy,” said Tammy Silver, one of the event organizers. “This rally is a call to action against the policies that have undermined our institutions, our values, and our future.”
The protestors plan to gather on the public sidewalk, emphasizing that they will not block any businesses and will leave space for pedestrians to walk by. Their grievances range from data security issues and the dismantling of federal food programs to the firing of scientists and the erosion of civil service standards. Protesters will also highlight concerns about the current administration’s alignment with authoritarian regimes and its disregard for the U.S. Constitution.
Key concerns among protesters include:
- The breakdown of data security and the flouting of the American tradition of rule of law.
- The undermining of international alliances and support for authoritarian governments.
- The removal of science and expertise from government agencies.
- The dismissal of qualified personnel in favor of unqualified leaders.
- The damaging effects of tariffs on the economy and the increasing rates of global warming.
Additional reasons for the protest include the growing climate of hatred and fear, the unjustified removal of minorities and women from leadership roles, and the inadequate federal response to pandemic and epidemic health threats.
“We can’t be silent anymore,”added Silver. “It’s time to stand for our values and make our voices heard.”
The event is expected to draw a diverse group of activists, citizens, and concerned individuals who believe in defending democracy and standing up against the actions they perceive as threatening the nation’s future.
