Old Pasadena Summer Cinema enters its final week with a puppet extravaganza at Central Park and four free screenings.
On Saturday, July 28, Central Park will host the original The Muppet Movie, a musical road trip romp that finds Kermit the Frog embarking on a cross-country trip to Hollywood while being pursued by the evil restaurateur Doc Hopper. This was the first theatrical film featuring Jim Henson’s Muppets, but the film also showcases its fair share of human cameos, a who’s-who of the 1970s comedy scene that includes Charles Durning, Steve Martin, Mel Brooks, Dom DeLouise, Madeline Kahn, Carol Kane, Cloris Leachman, and Richard Pryor.
What to expect
Beginning at 6:30 p.m., enjoy the chance to picnic along with special family activities that celebrate the art and fun of puppeteering:
- Kids can make “crazy critter” puppets with staff from the Armory Center for the Arts.
- Engage with roving puppeteers.
- Play with a colorful puppet theater and pose for photo ops.
- Get their faces painted.
- DJ Glenn Red spins tunes.
- Free Paradis Ice Cream (complimentary of Old Pasadena. While supplies last).
All you have to do is bring your own low chairs and blankets for seating.
