      Hosted by Kathabela Wilson

Poets have always lead the way in expressing the discontent and the temperament of their time. Our very creative and expressive poets today display disappointment and concern for current developments, as well as wry humor. All of us can listen, evaluate and have our own ways with words, assimilating and responding to our challenging political climate. Hoping that our poetic community of friendship and creativity will provide a healing environment as well as strong perspective from which we can see and comment on our current state.

      Michele L. Harvey

      the year opens
      with the president’s cohorts
      loudly yapping…
      In chinatown, dragons dance
for the year of the dog

Poet Michele L. Harvey is a New York based self-employed painter and poet. As a poet-painter steeped in the ways of nature and as an ordinary being who depends on the air, water, soil and life on the planet, Michele L. Harvey often includes the environment in her poetry. Here she confronts the year’s beginning with concern. As she says, “To not do so would be neglecting the essential purpose” of her art. She lives winters in New York City and summers in Hamilton, NY.

      and yawns
      every year

Poet Karla Decker lives in Lincoln, Nebraska. She moved there in 1963 to stay one year, and was so happy she stayed. She views the current scene with a wry humor and and wide perspective.
