      my date with you
      approaching
      like a gentle wave
      traveling the distance
      to swirl around my feet

      Joyce Futa grew up in San Gabriel, lived in San Francisco for 50 years, and moved back to Altadena two years ago. She’s an active member of Kathabela Wilson’s Tanka Poets on Site and Caltech Red Door Writing groups.

      appetizing
      like a piece of caramel cake

      Mira N. Mataric was born in Serbia and taught at the University of Belgrade. She moved to Pasadena in 1998 and started teaching Special Education, Creative Writing and Russian. She’s published 37 books of poetry, prose and translations, has many awards and publishes in international journals and anthologies.

      I head not west

      Born and raised in Pasadena, Sharon Hawley returned about ten years ago after college and a career, to find herself ten years older.
