Pasadena City College (PCC) celebrated the graduation of 38 cadets from its brand-new Wildland Fire Academy, marking the culmination of an intense and transformative 8-week program designed to prepare students for careers in wildland firefighting.

The program, described as arduous, fulfilling, and inspiring, pushed cadets to master technical knowledge and forge strong bonds of teamwork and commitment. From fire behavior and suppression tactics to physical endurance and mental toughness, the training equipped students with the critical skills necessary to protect communities and natural resources from the increasing threat of wildfires.
The success of the program was made possible by a dedicated support team, including expert instructors and behind-the-scenes staff. Special thanks were extended to Frank, Narissa, Mark, and Dean Barboza for their instrumental roles in making the academy a success.
“This graduating class is a testament to dedication, grit, and the incredible esprit de corps these cadets developed along the way,” said Matthew Barboza, Dean of Business Division and Enrollment Management at PCC.
Several cadets have already been hired, embarking on promising new careers filled with opportunity and adventure. The PCC community expressed immense pride in the graduates for rising to the challenge and stepping into a vital public service role.
