National Native American Heritage Month is a time to recognize the important contributions of Native people and celebrate their rich and diverse cultures, traditions and histories.

– Fry Bread: A Native American Storywalk and Scavenger Hunt
Take a walk outside while you read Fry Bread: A Native American Family Story by Kevin Noble Maillard, then come inside the library to learn about the tribes listed in the story. Find all the tribes and earn a fry bread cooking kit that you can take home and make with your family! Cooking kits are available while supplies last.

– Danza Mexikah Cultural Presentation
A musical celebration with Kalpulli Temachtia Quetzalcoatl. You’ll be moved by their ancestral drums and dance. Let their ancestral smoke connect you to their purpose as you listen to what they have to share about the importance of indigenous and First Nation people, past and present.

Join a special storytime featuring children’s picture books written by Native authors. For children ages 3-5 and their caregivers.

– Celebrate Native American History with the Pasadena Rose Poets
Join the Pasadena Rose Poets for an evening of Native American poetry. The poets and poetry showcase the universal and particular approaches Native American authors have taken to writing about diverse, indigenous cultures. For ages 18+.

Ring in fall with this tasty baked pumpkin treat using ingredients traditionally harvested by the Chippewa people! Reserve a kit at at this link. Signups begin Friday, Nov. 1. For ages 6 and up with adult assistance.

– Design a Poster to Honor the Indigenous Lands You Live On
Pick up supplies to design a poster that honors the indigenous lands you live on. Once complete, bring back your finished design to be displayed and shared with the community for the entire month of November.

Craft your own dream catcher to honor Native American Heritage Month! Weave the web, decorate with beads and tassels, and hang your finished masterpiece. Available while supplies last. For ages 9+.

Pasadena’s Public Affairs and Economic Development Divisions under the City Manager’s Office are set to spotlight Native American-owned businesses in Pasadena. Follow along as we highlight local gems on social media. Facebook and Instagram @CityOfPasadena, and Twitter (X) @PasadenaGov.
