ArtCenter College of Design will provide free Sneaker Science workshops to kids 11 to 18. The workshops will encourage the pursuit of higher education and creative economy careers for middle and high school students by raising their awareness of degree programs and professional opportunities in the footwear field.
Leading the effort to transform the sneaker culture into a solid vision of an “absolutely attainable” future will be Roosevelt Brown, an associate professor in ArtCenter’s Product Design department, ArtCenter alumnus and 25-year veteran footwear designer, together with Aaron Bruce, ArtCenter’s Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer.
To enroll students in the workshops, Brown and Bruce are working with the Brotherhood Crusade, a youth development, nonprofit organization in South Los Angeles.
Sneaker history and the design process, from concept to shoe rack, will be the focus of online workshops to take place June 17 and 18 for middle and high school students. For more information on the successful ArtCenter footwear design program and enrolling in the workshops check this link or email dei@artcenter.edu.
