As Pasadena’s Black History Festival ushers in 2026, it stands as a powerful testament to the strength and spirit of the local community.

Following the challenges of last year’s Eaton Fire, which shifted the focus toward recovery and unity, this year’s festival returns with renewed hope and a larger celebration. While the traditional parade remains paused, the community’s vibrant culture and collective triumph will take center stage. The 2026 festival will honor the resilience that defined last year’s event while introducing new elements to bring the community together.
A Return to Tradition, with a New Twist
Though the traditional parade remains on hold for the second consecutive year, the committee is thrilled to bring back a beloved part of the celebration: the classic car show. A highlight of previous festivals, the car show will take place alongside an expanded array of activities designed to honor Pasadena’s rich African American history and cultural heritage.
In addition to the car show, festival-goers can look forward to:
- Youth performances showcasing local middle and high school talent
- Live entertainment from local artists representing Pasadena’s vibrant cultural community
- Food trucks offering a variety of diverse and delicious food options
- Community resource booths with information, services, and support from local organizations
Uplifting the Community
Although the festival may not yet be fully restored to its former scale, organizers are excited to integrate several traditional parade elements into the festival experience, ensuring a lively atmosphere. Special acknowledgments will be made for the Grand Marshal honorees, as well as the youth performers taking center stage throughout the day.
Call for Volunteers
The Black History Planning Committee is calling for volunteers to help bring this year’s festival to life. Volunteers will assist with planning, logistics, outreach, and coordination, ensuring a smooth and welcoming experience for all attendees.
“We’re looking for passionate volunteers who want to be a part of something special,” said Boyden. “This festival is not just an event, it’s a celebration of our rich history, culture, and the achievements of Pasadena’s African American community.”
Community members can sign up to volunteer at at this link.
Looking Ahead
As Pasadena looks toward the future, the 2026 Black History Festival promises to be a memorable day filled with joy, pride, and community spirit. Whether through the return of the car show, the live performances, or the vibrant energy of the crowd, this year’s festival is a powerful reminder of the resilience that defines Pasadena.
