In response to reports of federal immigration enforcement activity occurring in the region over the weekend, the Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) is reassuring families that it remains steadfast in its commitment to providing a safe and welcoming environment for all students and their families.

Superintendent Elizabeth Blanco, Ed.D., issued a statement on behalf of the district, emphasizing proactive steps being taken to support and protect members of the community who may be affected.
“We want to assure our community that our top priority is maintaining a welcoming and safe environment for all,” Dr. Blanco said. “We are taking proactive steps to support and protect our families.”
PUSD made clear that it is operating in full alignment with Board Policy and California state guidance. Specifically:
- U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents will not be allowed on school grounds without either a lawfully executed court order or written approval from the Superintendent.
- The district does not collect or share information regarding the immigration status of students or their families.
- A dedicated webpage has been created to provide resources for families facing immigration-related concerns: pusd.us/immigrationresources.
In addition, the district is encouraging families to take precautionary steps, including understanding their rights, having an emergency plan in place, and seeking support when needed.
“We strongly encourage families to take steps to protect themselves and stay informed,” said Dr. Blanco.
PUSD serves a richly diverse student body and reiterated its commitment to working closely with the cities of Pasadena and Sierra Madre, Los Angeles County, and community partners to ensure campuses remain inclusive and secure.
“Our schools are safe spaces for learning and support, and we will continue to ensure that every student feels valued and protected,” Dr. Blanco concluded.
