Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) kicked off the 2025–2026 academic year with its annual all-staff welcome back event, “Launch Into Wellness: The Power of PUSD – Rising Together,” held at Pasadena High School.

The gathering united educators, staff, and special guests to celebrate perseverance, healing, and a renewed commitment to student success in the wake of the devastating Eaton Fire.
The day began with heartfelt remarks from Superintendent Dr. Elizabeth Blanco, stirring student performances, and a keynote address by author and international speaker Merlyna Valentine. Valentine’s story of resilience set the tone for a day centered on connection, growth, and wellness.
Professional Development with Purpose
For the first time, all certificated and classified employees participated in a district-wide professional development experience focused on academic excellence and wellness. Workshops covered literacy, math, college and career readiness, and strategies for fostering inclusive, supportive learning environments. Staff also explored evidence-based approaches to enhance student resilience and educator well-being.
