Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) has announced the second phase of its school reopening plan following the Eaton fire.
By News Desk
Starting Monday, January 27, four elementary schools and one program will welcome more than 1,670 students back to their classrooms. This brings the total number of students who have returned to in-person learning to 5,070.
The schools reopening on January 27 are:
- Field Elementary School
- Washington Elementary STEM Magnet
- Madison Elementary
- Norma Coombs Elementary
In addition to the schools, the Children’s Center on the Jefferson campus will also reopen, offering much-needed services to young learners.
A charter school, Alma Fuerte, located on the Cleveland campus, opened its doors earlier this week on January 23, marking a significant step forward in the district’s recovery efforts.
This latest phase of the reopening follows the first phase on January 23, in which ten schools and programs across six campuses reopened after extensive cleaning and environmental testing. The first phase allowed over 3,400 students to return to in-person learning in areas furthest from the fire’s impact.
“We are excited to continue bringing students back to school safely and ensure their educational experience remains as uninterrupted as possible,” said PUSD Superintendent Elizabeth Blanco. “We are committed to providing a safe environment for all of our students and staff as we work through the recovery process.”
Looking ahead, the district aims to have all remaining schools and programs reopen by January 30, with each school community receiving at least 24 hours’ notice before their reopening.
PUSD continues to prioritize safety, ensuring all campuses undergo thorough cleaning and meet required environmental standards before students return. For more updates, PUSD encourages families to visit the district’s website or follow their social media channels.
