The City of Pasadena is gearing up to host its 9th Annual National Coming Out Day Celebration on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2025, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Memorial Park, 85 E. Holly St.

      By News Desk

This free, family-friendly event is a vibrant celebration of diversity and inclusion, showcasing Pasadena’s ongoing commitment to creating a welcoming environment for all, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.

Organized by the Pasadena Public Health Department, Pasadena Public Library, and Pasadena Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Department, this year’s celebration marks the 38th anniversary of National Coming Out Day. The event honors the power of coming out and sharing one’s story, a vital act of self-expression that fosters greater understanding, acceptance, and equality.

A Day of Celebration and Support

The event will feature a lively atmosphere with music, resource tables, arts and crafts, giveaways, and more. It will bring together individuals and families of all ages to honor and support those who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual, or anyone whose sexual orientation or gender identity falls outside of the traditional LGBTQIA+ framework.

“This event is about more than just one day,” said Lisa Derderian, Pasadena Chief Communications Officer. “It’s a powerful reminder that Pasadena stands with all individuals, regardless of who they love or how they identify. We aim to create an inclusive space where everyone feels seen, heard, and supported.”

      A Legacy of Awareness

National Coming Out Day was first observed in 1988 to commemorate the anniversary of the historic National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights. The day encourages individuals to come out and share their stories, helping raise awareness and shift societal attitudes toward the LGBTQIA+ community. With nearly half of Americans knowing someone who is gay or lesbian, and one in 10 knowing someone who is transgender, coming out continues to be a crucial step toward social progress.

      An Inclusive City for All

The City of Pasadena has long prided itself on being an inclusive and accepting community. In addition to National Coming Out Day celebrations, Pasadena is committed to fostering an environment where all individuals are valued, regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other characteristic. This commitment to inclusion is reflected in the city’s year-round support for LGBTQIA+ events and services.

      Join the Celebration

The 9th Annual National Coming Out Day Celebration is open to all, and no RSVP is required. Taking place at Memorial Park, a central gathering place in Pasadena known for hosting community events, this celebration promises to be a fun and meaningful experience for all ages. Whether you’re coming out, supporting others, or simply looking to learn more about the LGBTQIA+ community, this event is a great opportunity to connect and celebrate diversity.
