On March 19, 2024, at 10:23 am, officers from the Pasadena Police Department responded to the 900 block of North Hudson Avenue regarding a “Shots Fired” call.

When officers arrived, a witness identified an adult male standing in a nearby driveway as the shooter. Officers detained the suspect without incident.
Additional officers entered the residence and located an unconscious and unresponsive adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. Pasadena Fire Department paramedics performed life-saving measures and the victim was transferred to the hospital in grave condition.
The victim was identified as 55-year-old Pasadena resident, Charles Johnson. The shooting occurred between relatives during a family disturbance. Detectives from the Pasadena Police Department’s Robbery / Homicide Unit (RHU) responded to the crime scene and served a search warrant at the location and recovered multiple firearms.
The suspect was identified as 38-year-old Christopher Thomas Harris, a Pasadena resident. The suspect was booked at the Pasadena Police Department Jail for attempted homicide.
On March 21, 2024, Charles Johnson died from his gunshot wound.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office declined to file criminal charges, citing the suspect’s self-defense claim could not be disproven beyond a reasonable doubt.
