Pasadena PD is working to reconfigure its community service areas (CSAs). These are the five areas into which Northwest Pasadena is divided because they have been the most active areas according the Pasadena PD.
With this reconfiguration, the community service areas will be reduced from five to four and Northwest Pasadena being divided by two boundaries. Pasadena PD expects that reconfiguring the service areas will permit officers to have more discretionary time to focus on the fundamental concepts of community policing, prevention, intervention, and enforcement.
Additionally, calls for service will be equaled out across areas allowing officers to have more balanced caseloads in order to prevent employee burnout and improve community relations. Furthermore, each of the four patrol lieutenants (watch commanders) will be responsible for an area.
Changes to the service areas will not be implemented until June 2022. The changes come as part of the recent reorganization plan for the Pasadena Police Department.
The Pasadena PD also hired twelve new trainee officers, all of whom graduated from the academy recently.
Trainee officers will rotate different shifts and community service areas so that they can get a variety of experiences before they go out on their own.
