      Pasadena Public Library is celebrating National Poetry Month this April with a variety of opportunities to hear, write, and engage with poetry.

      The Academy of American Poets started National Poetry Month in April 1996 to celebrate poetry’s ability to capture and enrich our daily lives. In April, readers, students, teachers, librarians, and booksellers mark poetry’s significance in our lives. This April, celebrate the power of poetry with the Pasadena Public Library at a free community event.

       Poetry Events

      – Blackout Poetry
      Create poetry using old magazine, book or newspaper pages and blacking out or redacting words, leaving behind a unique poem. No artistic or poetic experience is necessary! For ages 5+.

      – Pasadena Rose Poets Gerda Govine Ituarte and Hazel Clayton Harrison
      Learn how to compose a poem. Pasadena Rose Poets Gerda Govine Ituarte and Hazel Clayton Harrison will guide you. Discover format, poetry conventions, topic ideas and more to craft your poem, then share your writings with attendees. For ages 18+

      Poetry Writing for Adults
      Join us for a poetry writing meetup to spark your creativity. Whether you are a poetry writing pro or adventuring into the world of verse for the first time, we’ll have something for you. Select from a variety of tools and prompts to get your ideas flowing. For ages 18+.

      Tim DeRoche and Daniel Gonzalez: Tales of Whimsy, Verses of Wo
      Join author Tim DeRoche and illustrator Daniel González for a poetry centered discussion, featuring their book Tales of Whimsy, Verses of Woe. A collection sure to delight anyone who loves Lemony Snicket or Shel Silverstein. Tim is the 2019 Summer One City, One Story author.

      Following the presentation there will be a question-and-answer session, and book sale and signing. All ages.
