City officials in Pasadena have released a statement addressing growing community concerns following recent federal immigration enforcement actions and related unrest in downtown Los Angeles and other areas.

The City expressed deep concern and sadness over the events, emphasizing its commitment to public safety and the rights of all residents.
“We at the City of Pasadena are deeply saddened and concerned by the events that have taken place in the region over the past several days,” the statement began, referencing both federal immigration activities and incidents of civil unrest. City leaders acknowledged the potential for planned gatherings in Pasadena and affirmed the public’s right to peacefully protest.
However, the City issued a clear warning against criminal activity during demonstrations: “Anyone taking advantage of these situations to commit crimes in our City will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
The Pasadena Police Department will monitor any public gatherings to ensure safety and protect property, officials said. Residents are encouraged to report suspicious activity by calling the department at 626-744-4241.
Importantly, the City reaffirmed that neither it nor its police department participates in the enforcement of federal civil immigration laws. “We do not ask about an individual’s immigration status when responding to calls for service or when delivering City services,” the statement read. “Immigration enforcement is the responsibility of the federal government, not state or local governments.”
City officials acknowledged the fear and anxiety the situation has caused within the community and urged residents to remain calm and peaceful.
Mayor Victor Gordo echoed the City’s message of support and inclusivity: “Our City remains firmly committed to ensuring that every resident, regardless of immigration status, is treated with dignity and respect.”
The City also encouraged community members to “Know Your Rights” and visit the Los Angeles County Office of Immigrant Affairs website for resources, including links to local and national immigration support organizations and hotlines.
