Pasadena Humane is welcoming the community back to its kennels for walk-in dog adoptions, marking a key milestone in recovery from the months-long disruption caused by the Eaton Fire.
By News Desk
Beginning Monday, April 28, the shelter reopens its doors for in-person kennel visits, allowing potential adopters to meet their new canine companions face to face — no appointment needed.
To celebrate, the organization has launched its “Walkin’ On Sunshine” adoption promotion, waiving all dog adoption fees from April 28 through May 3. The effort aims to find loving homes for dogs currently in the shelter, while still supporting those animals temporarily housed due to the fire.
“This is a really meaningful step forward,” said Izzy Nidetz, Director of Placement at Pasadena Humane. “We’re excited to bring back walk-in kennel access, which helps so many people make that instant connection with the right dog. At the same time, we remain committed to the pets still with us due to the Eaton Fire.”
Since January, many of Pasadena Humane’s kennels have been reserved for dogs belonging to families displaced by the fire, limiting public adoption access. The reopening comes with a modified schedule:
- 10:00 am – 1:00 pm:
“Concierge adoptions,” by which potential adopters are guided through one-on-one meetings with adoptable dogs. - 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm:
Open “walk-in” adoptions, when the public can explore the kennels freely.
Nidetz notes the shelter’s goal is to balance compassionate care for fire-affected pets with a renewed focus on placing dogs into permanent homes. Over 70 dogs still remain in Pasadena Humane’s care due to ongoing displacement from the Eaton Fire.
All adoptions are first-come, first-served and subject to standard screening. Every adopted dog will be spayed or neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated.
