The community gathered at Memorial Park on Sunday, March 30, 2025, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of National Vietnam Veterans Day at the Pasadena Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

This solemn event honored the 31 local service members whose names are etched on the 4,000-pound black granite monument; each a reminder of the ultimate sacrifice made during the Vietnam War.
At the close of the ceremony, a wreath was laid at the memorial to pay tribute to these fallen heroes. The Pasadena Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day Commemoration was organized by Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 446, in partnership with the Martin Severance Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
The 2008 National Defense Authorization Act established a program to recognize the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War, granting the Secretary of Defense the authority to lead initiatives under the Commemorative Partner Program. This initiative seeks to honor Vietnam veterans and their families through coordinated efforts nationwide. In Pasadena, the Martin Severance Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution serves as the community’s Commemorative Partner.
Each Vietnam veteran in attendance was presented with a National Vietnam War Commemoration Lapel Pin, symbolizing the nation’s deep appreciation. The reverse side of the pin carries the inscription, “A Grateful Nation Thanks and Honors You.”
Former Pasadena Mayor William Paparian, who served on active duty in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and now serves as a Captain in the California State Guard’s Office of the Staff Judge Advocate, served as Master of Ceremonies.
Memorial Park, often used for community events, provided the perfect backdrop for this historic occasion. The ceremony underscored themes of gratitude, healing, and national unity, as attendees celebrated the courage and resilience of Vietnam War veterans.
National Vietnam Veterans Day offers a moment to reflect on the sacrifices made and reaffirm our commitment to supporting all those who served in Vietnam. This year’s 50th anniversary held special significance, not only as a major milestone but also as a renewed reminder of the importance of honoring all veterans.
