For the very first time, the Pasadena Folk Dance Co-op will present a program during ArtNight.
By Toti O’Brien
The Co-op will be generously hosted by Red Hen Press in their Hen House, at 1540 Lincoln Ave., on Friday, March 14.
If you plan to stop by Red Hen to enjoy the poetry, fun, and various activities offered by the Press, be sure to visit the Co-op booth, where they’ll have information about the local folk dance scene, upcoming events, and opportunities. More importantly, stay for one of the dance programs at 6:15, 7:15, 8:15, and 9:15 pm. Each performance will last about 35 minutes.
Each program will feature a brief introduction to the history and meaning of folk dance, followed by a vibrant dance performance showcasing diverse traditions. And of course, there will be a chance for audience participation—you’ll learn some fun, easy steps and have the opportunity to dance on the spot! If not now, when?
The Pasadena Folk Dance Co-op has been a beloved community fixture for decades, bringing together individuals of all ages to explore and celebrate the rich diversity of global folk dance traditions. Formerly based at Throop Church on Los Robles and Del Mar, the Co-op has called the Altadena Community Church home for the last 10 years. Sadly, that church was recently lost in a fire. While searching for a new permanent location, the Co-op extends heartfelt wishes to those currently grieving such losses. Through dance, music, joy, and celebration, it aims to foster resilience, promote healing, and offer hope.
