Forbes announced its annual “30 Under 30” list, recognizing rising leaders from North America across 20 industries. Included on that list was Pasadena City College (PCC) Trustee Ryan Liu, who was named on the Forbes 30 Under 30 Education list for his work in expanding access to higher education.

Liu is the youngest community college trustee currently serving in California and one of the youngest community college trustees in the country. Liu represents Area 6 on the PCC Board of Trustees, which includes parts of Rosemead, El Monte, San Gabriel, Temple City, and Arcadia. In addition to serving in the senior leadership of the PCC Board of Trustees as Board Clerk, Liu chairs the board’s Facilities Subcommittee, which oversees PCC’s plans to use its $565 million bond for new construction and renovations. These plans include the construction of a state-of-the-art satellite campus in Rosemead, which will expand the reach of PCC’s programs and resources to local residents.
Liu said: “I’m deeply grateful to be recognized by Forbes. Over a decade ago, I enrolled at PCC. Like many community college students, I grew up low income and was the first in my family to go to college. That decision changed my life. PCC gave me the opportunity to become an attorney and uplift my family. I never forgot the chance that PCC gave me. And that’s why I’ve been involved at PCC ever since to help create these same opportunities for future generations of students like myself.”
Every year, Forbes receives over 20,000 nominations, which are evaluated by Forbes editors and a panel of expert judges from each respective field. The expert judges who selected Liu this year included the President and CEO of Common App and the Co-Founder and Head of Revenue of Grammarly.
