Amid a nationwide crisis involving F-1 visa terminations, Pasadena City College (PCC) has confirmed that one of its two affected international students has had their visa reinstated, offering a measure of relief amid ongoing uncertainty
By News Desk
The issue stems from recent federal policy shifts that resulted in the deletion of certain student records from the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), a federal database used to monitor international students in the United States. These deletions effectively terminated students’ legal status, sparking widespread concern across college campuses.
The reinstatement comes after mounting legal pressure. Several lawsuits filed by universities and international students have challenged the terminations, prompting U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to provisionally restore SEVIS records in many cases. However, ICE has warned that further terminations remain possible, keeping uncertainty high.
Pasadena City College is continuing to monitor the situation. While one student’s visa has been reinstated, the college has not yet confirmed the status of the second affected student. PCC officials say they remain in communication with the broader international student community.
“PCC’s commitment to helping all students achieve their dreams remains unshaken,” said Dr. Gómez, uperintendent/president of Pasadena City College. “We will continue to support all of our students as we navigate this changing landscape together.”
Two weeks ago, Dr. Gómez advised international students to avoid non-essential travel outside the U.S. until the situation stabilizes. He also encouraged any students with questions to reach out directly to the International Students Center for personalized guidance.
Students with questions or concerns are still encouraged to reach out to the International Students Center at (626) 585-7808.
