Following its most attended season to date and a recent national accolade, the American Prize in Choral Performance, the Pasadena Chorale has announced a milestone 2025–2026 season that highlights both artistic growth and expanded community outreach.

      By Rena Kurlander

With a total of ten free concerts and four distinct ensembles under its banner, the Chorale’s upcoming season is its most ambitious yet. In addition to the 85-member Pasadena Chorale, the organization now includes the Pasadena Choral Society, the High Notes middle school choir, and a newly formed group of 16 select singers.

“This season we’re offering the Pasadena community more ways than ever to experience the joy of choral music,” said Founding Artistic & Executive Director Jeffrey Bernstein. “Our organization has grown to four ensembles, and this season we’re offering 10 concerts right here in Pasadena. This is music of healing, comfort, and exuberance, presented, as always, for free.”

The season opens on August 27 with Rebirth, an intimate performance of Renaissance choral works by the Chorale’s new 16-member ensemble. Set in the historic St. Andrew Church—renowned for its Romanesque architecture inspired by 5th-century basilicas—the concert promises a spiritually resonant experience rooted in centuries-old musical tradition.

The remainder of the season spans a broad musical spectrum, from Brahms’ Requiem and Handel’s Messiah, to contemporary compositions like I Believe featuring works by Margaret Bonds and Michal Dawson Connor. Seasonal highlights include Shawn Kirchner’s winter oratorio The Light of Hope Returning and Vaughan Williams’ sweeping A Sea Symphony. Youth voices take center stage in Spring Sing and Listening to the Future, the latter showcasing premieres by young composers from Pasadena-area schools.
