As the summer heat begins to recede, one hopes, and the fall football season is on the horizon, HERO Sports, a blog that covers college sports, has designated Pasadena as the 17th ranked college football town in America.

Is Pasadena a college town? “Technically,” writes Wai Sallas of HERO, “it is not a college town, but there is football on Saturday.”
What enables Pasadena to stand beside the Friday Night Lights of Texas towns and the football fans of the Bible Belt? “UCLA football and the Rose Bowl,” says Sallas. And the city of Pasadena itself. “Driving into the San Gabriel Valley is to leave the concrete wasteland of Los Angeles and enter an urban oasis.” While Pasadena is close to LA, “it is its own unique experience.”
With Chip Kelly taking over as UCLA head coach this year, and Josh Rosen gone to Arizona, the experience of UCLA football should be unique indeed.
