Our Lady of Guadalupe Celebration at Forest Lawn in Glendale

Forest Lawn—Glendale will commence the holiday season with a free, family-friendly community event of the feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe (Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe), one of the most celebrated and significant Mexican holidays.

On Sunday, December 8, 2019, the authentic ceremony will transport attendees to rustic Mexico with a bilingual religious service, Mariachi music, a Ballet Folklorico Internacional dance performance, rosary giveaways, face painting, and traditional religious breads and refreshments. In addition to the Glendale event, Forest Lawn’s portrait of Our Lady of Guadalupe, will be the focal point of a 32-mile procession beginning at 3:00 am at Our Lady of Solitude in Palm Springs and concluding at Our Lady of Soledad in Coachella.

Rodolfo Saenz, Senior Vice President, Marketing at Forest Lawn Memorial-Parks & Mortuaries said:

Each year, we bring the community together to honor the patron saint of the Americas, and this year, we open our doors to young families with family-focused activities as well as the Mariachi music, Ballet Folklorico Internacional dancers, and a bilingual religious ceremony that make up an important part of our communities’ celebrations.

      Highlights

      • A dazzling procession through the Hall of the Crucifixion-Resurrection.
      • Bilingual service by Father Mario Juarez from Christ Cathedral in Orange County,
      • Mariachi music performed by Mariachi Juvenil Herencia Mexicana.
      • Dance performance by Lucia Parra – Ballet Folklorico Internacional.
      • Family-friendly activities including face painting, candy bags, and balloon giveaways.

      Parking and museum

Admission and parking are free. Attendees are encouraged to arrive one hour prior to the start time of the ceremony to allow ample time to find parking and enjoy a walk through the grounds before the event begin. Guests can also tour the newly remodeled Forest Lawn Museum, including selections from the permanent collection and the current exhibition, The Elevated Eye: Aerial Photography Past and Present.
