Oregon will face the winner of the College Football Playoff first-round game between Ohio State and Tennessee on December 21.

      By News Desk

The No. 1 Oregon Ducks, champions of the Big Ten Conference, will play in the College Football Playoff Quarterfinal at the Rose Bowl Game presented by Prudential at 1:00 pm (PT) on Monday, January 1, 2025, at the Rose Bowl Stadium.

Oregon will face the winner of the College Football Playoff’s first-round game between Ohio State and Tennessee. The first-round game will take place in Columbus, Ohio on December 21 at 5:00 pm (PT).

Ohio State and Tennessee only have played once in their history: the 1996 Florida Citrus Bowl at which Tennessee won 20-14. Ohio State finished the season ranked No. 6 in the CFP rankings and earned the No. 8th seed in the Playoff. The Buckeyes were 10-2 on the year and 6-2 in the Big Ten. Tennessee comes into the postseason with a 10-2 record overall and a 6-2 record in the SEC. The Volunteers are ranked No. 7 in the final CFP rankings and earned the No. 9th seed in the Playoff.

Pasadena Tournament of Roses President Ed Morales said:

We look forward to hosting the first-ever College Football Playoff Quarterfinal at the Rose Bowl Game. We are excited to welcome the Oregon Ducks back to Pasadena for The Granddaddy of Them All and we are eager to see who they will play on New Year’s Day.”

Oregon won the Big Ten Championship in its inaugural season in the conference with a 45-38 victory over Penn State on Saturday night. The Ducks enter the postseason as the No. 1 overall seed and No. 1-ranked team in the final College Football Playoff rankings. Oregon was the only Football Bowl Subdivision team to finish the season undefeated with a 13-0 record overall and a 9-0 record in conference play. Oregon has played in eight Rose Bowl Games with a 4-4 record, but the Ducks have won in their last three appearances. The Ducks have an all-time Bowl record of 17-20.

Pre-game festivities on January 1 will begin at 1:00 pm. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN. Fans in search of tickets for the Playoff Quarterfinal at the Rose Bowl Game presented by Prudential can shop safely on the Official Fan-to-Fan Ticket Exchange via Ticketmaster.

This year’s Rose Bowl Game will be Oregon’s 9th appearance in The Granddaddy of Them All.
