On November 14, 2022, at 9:28 pm, the Alhambra Fire Department and neighboring agencies were dispatched to the 2300 block of Hathaway Avenue to a single-family residence with reports of fire visible through the windows.

Initial crews received information of people still inside the structure. They immediately made entry and performed search and rescue operations. One victim was discovered during search operations and was pronounced dead on the scene.
A complete second alarm assignment performed fire suppression, ventilation and rescue operations. The fire was considered under control at 10:03 pm. The last Fire Unit cleared the scene at 2:52 am.
A thorough investigation is being completed by the Alhambra Fire Department, with assistance from the Verdugo Arson Task Force and Alhambra Police Department.
The cause is currently under investigation. No suspicious conditions have been identified at this time.
