On Saturday, April 13, 2024, at 8:39 am, officers from the Pasadena Police Department made contact with a white pick-up truck that was parked facing the wrong way on Hudson Avenue, a one-way street, near Del Mar Boulevard.

As officers were conducting their investigation and conversing with the driver, he suddenly sped off. While doing so, the suspect narrowly missed striking an officer with his truck. Now he was wanted for an assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer. Police units initiated a short vehicle pursuit that ended when the suspect crashed into the front yard of a home located in the 800 block of Arden Road.
The suspect fled from his vehicle and ran into the residential neighborhood as officers established a containment area and organized a search team to conduct yard-to-yard searches. While fleeing, the suspect forcibly entered two occupied residences. With the assistance of the Pasadena Police Department’s airship, officers located the suspect in the rear yard of a property in the 700 block of Oak Knoll Circle. A K9 dog was first to contact the suspect, however, the suspect still refused to surrender and produced a handgun. The suspect refused to comply with orders to drop the handgun, and an officer-involved shooting occurred.
The suspect sustained gunshot wounds. Officers performed life-saving measures until paramedics from the Pasadena Fire Department arrived and transported the suspect to a local hospital. The suspect was later pronounced deceased.
A handgun was recovered from the shooting scene. No officers were injured during the shooting. Detectives from the Pasadena Police Department’s Robbery / Homicide Unit (RHU) responded to the crime scene for an immediate follow-up investigation. In addition, personnel from the Pasadena Police Department’s Professional Standards and the Critical Performance Units responded to conduct separate investigations of the incident. A team from the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office also responded to initiate their investigation.
The suspect has been identified as 36-year-old Ricardo Guade Andrade, a San Fernando resident.
