California’s SUN Bucks program (also known as Summer EBT) is returning in 2025 to help families provide nutritious meals for their children during the summer months when school is out.
By News Desk
Eligible families will receive $40 per child each month for June, July, and August, a total of $120 per child, to help cover the cost of food when students don’t have access to free or reduced-price school meals.
Most children who qualify for free or reduced-price meals through their school’s meal application or the Universal Benefits Application will be automatically enrolled. Children receiving CalFresh, CalWORKs, or Medi-Cal are also automatically eligible, as are those in foster care, experiencing homelessness, enrolled in Head Start programs, or identified as runaways.
Children who don’t meet these automatic eligibility criteria may still qualify and will need to apply separately.
Importantly, receiving SUN Bucks will not affect a family’s immigration status.
