Seven high school students will be honored for graduating from both John Muir High School and Pasadena City College this year.

Local leaders and Pasadena educators will gather Tuesday, April 23, 2024, for a lunchtime celebration at Pasadena City College in honor of seven Pasadena Unified students. The students from John Muir High School have nearly completed the requirements to earn not only their high school diplomas this spring, but also junior college associate (AA) degrees.
Having completed their two-year AA junior college degrees before leaving high school, the seven scholars have been accepted at 36 colleges and universities around the country, including Howard University, USC, Columbia University, the University of North Carolina, and eight University of California campuses.
Their achievements are made possible by PCC’s dual-enrollment program at John Muir, a program that was started under the leadership of the former PUSD Superintendent, Brian McDonald. Through the program, high-school students, beginning in 9th grade, are able to take college-level courses during their regular school day, earning college credit in addition to their high school coursework. To earn the associate degree, however, students must take additional coursework beyond the typical school day. For these seven students – and others who will follow in their footsteps – their extra coursework has accelerated their journey toward college degrees.
