An additional 78 fires are being managed with strategies that prioritize safety, ecological balance, and resource allocation over full suppression.
More than 15,000 wildland firefighters and support personnel are currently deployed nationwide, including 368 crews, 702 engines, 120 helicopters, and 18 complex incident management teams.
So far in 2025, 37,672 wildfires have scorched 2.5 million acres, above the 10-year average in number of fires, though slightly below average in total area burned.
Officials urge the public to exercise extreme caution outdoors. “The landscape is primed for fire,” the agency warns. “Prevention is more than a message; it’s a responsibility we all share.”
