The Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association announced its 2027 theme, “Welcome,” as newly installed President Terry Madigan officially begins his term leading one of the nation’s most celebrated New Year’s traditions.

Unveiled by Terry Madigan, the theme “Welcome” celebrates the simple joy of belonging, the feeling of being embraced no matter who you are or where you come from. It reflects the warmth of family, both biological and chosen, the comfort of close friendships, and the inclusive spirit of community that has long defined the Tournament of Roses.
The Tournament of Roses’ Board of Directors confirmed Madigan as President and Chairman of the Board for the 2027 Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association. In this role, he will provide leadership for the 138th Rose Parade and the 113th Rose Bowl Game, both set for Friday, January 1, 2027.

Madigan brings more than three decades of dedication to the Tournament of Roses, having first joined the Association as a volunteer member in 1993. He was appointed a Tournament of Roses Chair in 2010 and became a Director in 2013. Over the years, Madigan has held numerous leadership roles, including heading the Host, Judging, Parade Operations, and Special Events Committees. His service also includes vice chair positions for Float Entries and Post Parade, along with committee work across Community Relations, Decorating Places, Equestrian, Formation, Parade Operations, Post Parade, and TV/Radio.
Beyond his involvement with the Tournament of Roses, Madigan is active in the broader community. He serves as a member of the Board of Directors and Treasurer for the San Gabriel Valley LGBTQ Center, reflecting his ongoing commitment to service and inclusion.
Professionally, Madigan is a Certified Personal Chef and the owner of Just No Thyme, a personal chef service serving Pasadena and the San Gabriel Valley. Prior to pursuing his culinary career full time, he worked in marketing and communications.
A sixth-generation Californian, Madigan grew up in the San Gabriel Valley and developed a deep connection to the Rose Parade early in life. While attending South Pasadena High School, he twice drove the City of South Pasadena’s float in the parade, experiences that helped cement his lifelong passion for the event. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and journalism from the University of Southern California and later completed a Diplôme in Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Arts from the California School of Culinary Arts.
Madigan resides in South Pasadena with his husband, Kevin Sommerfield, as he prepares to lead the Tournament of Roses into 2027 with a message centered on unity, inclusion, and welcome.
