Cervantes, 40, comes to San Gabriel from the City of San Marino, where he previously served as the Community Development Director. With an extensive background in economic development, historic preservation and planning, Cervantes oversaw the preservation of San Marino’s architectural history with the development of the community’s first historic preservation ordinance and context statement/survey, the first mixed-use project and an economic development program. Previously, Cervantes worked at the City of Montebello and the City of Cerritos.
Mark Lazzaretto, San Gabriel’s City Manager, said:
We are privileged to welcome Aldo to the San Gabriel community. With over 20 years of experience, Aldo’s background will be an asset to our community and to our team.
In his new role, Cervantes will report directly to the City Manager, overseeing the City’s Economic Development, Neighborhood Improvement Services, Planning, Building and Safety divisions. San Gabriel’s Community Development Department is responsible for creating an inviting, safe and vibrant physical environment for the residents, businesses and visitors of San Gabriel.
“I’m honored to join the City of San Gabriel,” said Aldo Cervantes. “I’ve made economic development and historic preservation a key focus throughout my professional career and I hope to bring that experience to the City.”
Cervantes received his Bachelor of Science in Urban Planning from Cal Poly Pomona in 2003 and his Master in Public Administration from Cal State Fullerton in 2009.
