Pasadena City Council has appointed Steve Mermell as interim city manager.

Outgoing City Manager Michael Beck’s last council meeting is Monday, Jan. 8, 2016. His last day on the job will be on Valentine’s Day. He will be joining UClA as its administrative vice chancellor on March 1, 2016.

- Steve Mermell earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s degree in public administration from California State University-Northridge (SCUN).
- He’s been a Pasadena city employee since 1989, working his way up the ranks from an administrative analyst at Pasadena Water and Power.
- In the Finance Department, he served as purchasing administrator, budget administrator and deputy director of finance before achieving his current position of assistant city manager.
- He lives in Los Angeles with his wife, Rachel, and two sons.
A nationwide search will be conducted to replace Michael Beck, with a chance to have new leadership and fresh outlook in the City of Pasadena.
