Valedictorian Mason Usher has been a proud Mustang at John Muir High School (JMHS) Early College Magnet since his freshman year.

He has been accepted to Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, and is planning to major in Medicine and/or Architecture.
Mason has earned the John Muir Service Award, the California Scholarship Federation Award, the Academic Letter Award, and an Engineering and Environmental Sciences Medallion Award. He is also a member of the National Honor Society. Mason has completed a total of 24 credits (8 college courses) at John Muir High School through their Early College Magnet Program and Pasadena City College. He also received scholarships through the John Muir Class of 1965, PAASSE, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Omega Psi Phi, and Delta Sigma Theta.
Mason was the JMHS Solar Engineering Captain, Science Olympiad Vice-President, Water Polo and Varsity Swim Team Member, member of Architecture and Construction Engineering (ACE) team, member of the U.S. Forestry Service Generation Green, interned at D. Reed Medical Management, and participated in the Chevron Design Challenge.
Gretchen Pinto is Early College Magnet Coordinator at John Muir High School.
