Say hello to Trinket, the new Queen of the Royal Catnip Court.
By Briony James
Trinket was crowned on Dec. 14, 2024, along with her Court of attendants: Libby, Earl Grey, Desiree, Gingko, and Gummie Bear, by none other than the Tournament of Roses Queen herself, Lindsay Charles.
Elected by popular demand at the Tail Town Cat Café, members of the Court are ambassadors for the feline rescue group at their headquarters on 1780 E Washington Blvd, Pasadena, CA 91104. Joining with their human fellow-royals, they are goodwill felines encouraging the adoption of cats and care for their well-being.
The women-owned and operated facility is a partner of Kitten Rescue and provides cats with an open, 2,000 square foot space where up to 40 cats can roam freely. The cat café offers a home for cats to interact with potential adopters and those looking for a cat cuddling fix or a great spot to work remotely. In addition to time in the cat lounge, Tail Town also has weekend adoption events in the lobby and afterhours events where visitors do a fun activity surrounded by cats, including Meow and Paint, Team Trivia contests and Kitty Bingo nights.
Quotes by the Royal Catnip Court: - Queen Trinket – “I’m really into potlucks as a thing, casseroles, dump cakes, pasta bakes…any kind of dish bake that you can share with large crowds. More of that please!” - Libby – “I’d take a long staycation where I can finally relax and work on my Animal Crossing Village. I need to get that golden fishing pole and start collecting flowers. That stinky Tom Nook keeps holding me back!” - Earl Grey – “My dream would be to open a rage room for cats, where we can finally destroy anything and everything we want. Lampshades, antique upholstery, rugs – you name it and we’ll barf on it!” - Desiree – “Now I live in a commune with 40 other cats — I’m gonna put on my high heels and get the heck outta here!” - Gingko – “First, I’ll take a year off to travel and become versed in the ways of the world. study International Feline Law, focus on my cat-coin start-up, and open a feline sound bath/yoga studio in Boulder, CO. You know, just to get started…” - Gummi Bear – “This one time, someone shared a piece of cheese with me — I mean they dropped it on the floor, and I ate it. I think of that as the best day of my life. I wish I could be a piece of cheese. That would be amazing.”
Tail Town is open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, and eighty-minute cat passes are available for lounge visits with reservations online or available in-person.
