On Saturday, July 12 at 7:00 pm, the Altadena and Eaton Fire communities will come together for “Mariposa Night,” a special evening of live storytelling designed to celebrate resilience, connection, and shared memory. Hosted on Caltech’s campus, the event features first-person narratives from residents and workers directly impacted by the devastating Eaton Fire.

Rather than focusing on loss, Mariposa Night centers stories that highlight family, hope, and the enduring meaning of home. Organizers believe in the power of storytelling as a tool for healing and connection. a sentiment echoed by Caltech’s own disaster resilience expert, Dr. Lucy Jones.
“We need to hold concerts and events, not just for the next three months but for the next three years, so that this remains a place that you want to be in,” said Dr. Jones, whose research has emphasized the role of community in long-term recovery. Mariposa Night is a step toward that vision, an evening of collective care and renewal.
Free Community Fair Kicks Off at 5:30 pm
Before the storytelling begins, attendees are invited to a free resource fair and concert on Caltech’s Beckman Lawn starting at 5:30 pm. Highlights include performances by the Eliot Arts Magnet Mariachi Band and BLOW Brass, along with booths hosted by local nonprofits focused on community well-being. Organizations like Young and Healthy, Union Station, Pasadena Village, and others will be on hand with information and support services. Food will be available for purchase from Tacos 210.
