a poster of dignitaries next to wmen leadersThe 4th annual Women’s History Month assembly will be held virtually on March 24 from 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm. The assembly includes a list of local dignitaries speaking live to celebrate Women’s History for the Pasadena Unified School District.

      By News Desk

Starting the event is Pasadena’s Mayor Victor Gordo. Congresswoman Judy Chu will introduce the keynote speaker Pasadena’s Director of Public Health Dr. Ying-Ying Goh. Following the student’s reading of their essays will be Senator Anthony Portantino and LA County Supervisor Kathryn Barger. Closing the assembly is PUSD Chief Academic Officer Dr. Elizabeth Blanco.

Students representing their middle schools will share their essays and artwork which address the prompt for this year’s event: “For the first time in American History, we have a female Vice President of the United States. What does having a woman in the 2nd highest office mean to you?”

Created by Eliot Arts Principal Lori Touloumian and Jennifer Hall Lee in 2017, this event is currently an Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) Region#15 School Collaborative. Principal Touloumian said:

It is the ONLY one of its kind, and exclusively for middle school students.

Jennifer Hall Lee, PUSD School Board Trustee, said, “It’s important for both girls and boys to see and understand the details of the Women’s Liberation Movement in the United States. The stories of these women tie us to each other globally.”
