      SOUTH PASADENA – ColoradoBoulevard.net:

The City of South Pasadena will host a free Electric Leaf Blower Demonstration at Garfield Park, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, on June 27, 2023.

      By News Desk

In September 2021, the City of South Pasadena adopted Ordinance No. 2357 prohibiting the use of gas-powered leaf blowers. The ordinance was enacted to enhance the quality of life for residents by reducing air and noise pollution. Enforcement of the ordinance is in effect and property owners are responsible for ensuring that gas-powered leaf blowers are not used on their property. Fines up to $500 may be issued to property owners for non-compliance. Residents and gardeners can use gas alternatives such as a rake, broom, or an electric leaf blower.

Two incentive programs currently offer discounts on electric equipment for commercial gardeners and landscape professionals.

      • The South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) is offering discounted electric lawn equipment, including leaf blowers, in exchange for gas-powered equipment through their Commercial Lawn and Garden Equipment Incentive and Exchange Program. More information on this program can be found at www.AQMD.gov/LawnGarden.
      • The California Clean Off-Road Equipment Voucher Incentive Project (CORE) is also offering discounted electric lawn equipment, including leaf blowers. More information on this program can be found at www.CaliforniaCORE.org. Funding for both programs is limited and should be applied for as soon as possible.

The City of South Pasadena has partnered with the American Green Zone Alliance (AGZA) to host a free Electric Leaf Blower Demonstration event on Tuesday, June 27, 2023 to educate the community on the ban and the SCAQMD and CA CORE incentive programs. Residents and gardeners are welcome to stop by Garfield Park (1000 Park Ave.) any time between 9:00 am and 1:00 pm to test out a variety of low-noise, low-polluting electric lawn equipment, including leaf blowers. Spanish speaking staff will be available to answer questions and refreshments will be served.

To learn more about the ban on gas-powered leaf blowers, available incentives, and upcoming events in the City, visit www.SouthPasadenaCA.gov/LeafBlowers.

I replaced a very old gas mower with a great battery powered one. I used it for the first time yesterday and it took the 18″ of grass and weeds right down to mulch, no bagging no BS. It even has headlights on it. No more gas, no more breathing in that exhaust.
My battery powered leaf blower, string trimmer, and pole saw are coming in a day or two.
It’s the way of the future 😉
