The LA Youth Climate Movement is organizing a Climate Halloween parade on October 29, 2021, to call for the immediate end of fossil fuel expansion.
By News Desk
At the Paris Climate Agreement in 2015, the Big Six US banks committed to Net Zero emissions by 2050. Yet since the Paris Agreement was signed, these banks, including JPMorgan Chase, have continued to invest billions of dollars in fossil fuel expansion. Just as the planet urgently needs to transition to a clean energy future, fossil fuel expansion recklessly accelerates the climate emergency, devastating biodiversity and ecosystems in the Los Angeles area and all over the world.
To confront this, the Climate Halloween coalition will parade through Santa Monica streets costumed as locally endangered species: honey bees, brown pelicans, California condors, vaquita dolphins, bighorn sheep, and more.
The October 29, 2021 parade kicks off with participants assembling at 3:00 pm at Tongva Park in Santa Monica. At 3:30 pm, the march begins weaving through Downtown Santa Monica, the Third Street Promenade, landing in front of Chase Bank on 4th Street for a rally featuring speeches and performances. The coalition calls on Chase customers to move their accounts, and for Chase employees and shareholders to call for divestment.
Climate Halloween is a coalition of climate activists based in the Greater Los Angeles Area, including Extinction Rebellion LA, Extinction Rebellion Youth LA, International Indigenous Youth Council LA, YEA! Impact, Sunrise LA Youth, Youth Climate Strike LA, OneUp Action, the Future Coalition, and Noo.World.
